Happy Monday!

Pine Mountain Desgin
I gave this sweet snowman pillow to my sister for having us all for Thanksgiving.
It is one of my morning stitching projects.

Oh ya.....did you notice that my blog has been re-designed. Tiffiany from Another Pie in the Sky did the re-designing for me. She did such a great job! I am so happy with the new desgin.

What do you think about the new desgin?

Hexies

You just can’t make one. Hexies are addictive.

I wanted to share with you how I make my hexies.

I spent most of the summer working on making hexie flowers from my scraps for a quilt top. So far I have made 280 hexies which made 40 flowers.

These need to be added to my garden!

I am using 1 1/2 inch plastic templates from Picking up the Pieces. They are called Quilt Patis, they come in all different sizes and are reusable. You can find them online. I just Google them and searched online quilt shops. I did find one packet at a LQS which I just could not pass up.

I cut out 3 7/8 fabric squares from my scraps and wrap the fabric around the plastic template holding the fabric on the plastic template with paper clips. I find the paper clips to work very well with holding the fabric in place while basting. I than baste the fabric around the plastic template to hold the fabric in place.

I attach the hexies together with a whipping stitch; the plastic template will pop out as you sew the flowers together.  I do leave the basting in the hexie. I figure it isn’t hurting anything and you can’t see the basting on the top of the hexie.

I love making hexies…they are such a portable project that you can take anywhere with you which made them such a great project for the summer.  I figure I need about 80 more flowers to finish my quilt top. I am thinking that maybe by next summer it will be done!

WIP

Last year I picked up this Halloween panel at a LQS to make a wall hanging and since I never finished it in time for last Halloween I thought that I would try again this year. After spending a week thinking about it and looking for it (it was actually longer than a week but who's counting) I finally found it and pieced it all together. Now for the quilting part, I can't decide how I should quilt it. It would look really nice on my front door if I could only figure out just how I should quilt it. I thought about hand quilting it, going around all the ghosts, pumpkins and candy corns, but I am afraid of how it will look on the back.

What would you do?

September = Teamwork
Even the tallest peaks are no match for teamwork.

I wrote this post a few weeks ago and just decided to post it.

I feel that things have been crazy since the middle of August and there hasn't been alot of sewing going on around here and this is why....It all started on Saturday, August 13, we left for vacation and had a great time at Walt Disney.

My children, Megan and Jorge.

We returned home on Tuesday, I came home with a terrible summer cold which would linger on for about 2 1/2 weeks.

On Friday, we had a water main pipe break on our street and were without water for 2 days. I had tickets for Jimmy Buffet for that Friday night so off we went to the concert. It also happened to be raining and the concert was outdoors. He does put on a good show. Yes, I left the kids home with no water and they survived!

Jimmy Buffet concert @ Jones Beach.

The following Tuesday we had an earthquake. It was a very strange feeling. I have never felt an earthquake before and don't care if I ever feel one again!

Here comes the weekend....Irene comes for a visit. I had to evacuate my home, go to stay with my mother in law, ( I did take my new Aurifil thread and my hexies with me) and prayed that there wouldn't be any water in my house upon my return. Good news! I did not get any water in my house but Irene left me a big mess that needed to be cleaned up. I lost the tree in my front yard but were lucky it did not hit the house. We had over a foot of water in our garage, so there is a major clean up that needs to be done there. The stuff that came out of the canal was just so gross. I started to call it stinkweed because I didn't know what else to call it. There was garden hoses, cans of paint, shoes, bottles, long pieces of grass, lots of wood and ...... the list could go on for ever. The worst part was the motor oil or gasoline smell that was also in the water. We had to shovel all the stinkweed into large contractor bags. We used over 20 contractor bags. Ugh!

Stinkweed!

I am very thankful that everyone is okay and life goes on....

Last weekend, I went to visit my sister and saw the 125th celebration of the Southhold Fire Department Parade. They had the largest American flag I have ever seen on the front of the fire house. What do you think?

I am so excited because this coming weekend is the Long Island Shop Hop. And my good quilting friend ME is coming all the way from PA so that we can spend the whole day hopping from shop to shop.  We have such a blast! We stop and shop at 5 different quilt shops from one end of Long Island to the other end. I can't wait to tell you all about our day next week.

WIP

Since I was running out of templates for my blossoms, I needed to make a decision to either order more templates or start sewing my blossoms together. I also need to decide if I was going to put stepping stones between my blossoms, so I asked my 15 year old son what he thought and no stepping stones was the answer, so I started sewing my blossoms together and this is what I have so far.....

I wish I took better pictures. This picture didn't come out that good.
And I still may order some more templates!

Monday's Blossom

#6
Look! It isn't blue.
I have run out of the plastic templates I am using...I guess I have to start sewing them together or purchase another package.  The problem is that so many of my blossoms are blue.
Oh..what is a girl to do?

ELIQG 30th Annual Peconic Quilt Show

Last Saturday, I went to the Eastern Long Island Quilters' Guild 30th Annual Peconic Quilt show.
There were over 180 quilted items on display.
(These pictures were taken with my phone, so I apologize for the quality of the pictures.)
Here are some of my favorites:

Best in Show ~ "A Quilt as Eternal as the Love We Share" by Galyna Sokolova- Miller.

Member Challenge Exhibit: 30 Something ~ "Everything's 30's" by Jean Bernhardt

Members were challenged to make a quilt that contained exactly 30 something in honor of the show's 30th anniversary.

Merit Award ~ "My Featherweight 221" by Marie Deuel
"Flower Power" by Diana M. Berthold
"Tail of the Dragon" by Barbara Ryan
This was the first prize from the raffle table. (I did not win) A queen size Grannys' Stars quilt which was made by the EILQG members based on a design by Nancy Mahoney.

I purchased this bag of scraps for $15.00, it was all you could fit. I rolled a lot of fabric in to this bag.
I seem to have a thing with blue fabric. I don't really know what is up with that?

Hum...this is blue too!

LOL!

I made this baby blanket over the weekend for a co-worker's baby shower. It is a good thing he isn't having a boy or the blanket would have been blue too!

Monday's Blossom

WOW! It is just a perfect day today. The weather is just so wonderful. I can't believe it is Monday already...again. I just don't know where the time goes...

Monday's blossom

#3

I am using 1 1/2 hexies for my blossoms, so they are a good size.

I also had the opportunity to attend a Quilt show on Eastern Long Island this past weekend. I saw some really fantastic quilts made by some very talented people. (I will share some pictures later on.)

The word for the month of June is....Achievement.
Start thinking about opportunities, not limits, to reach your full potential.
